Having not had enough time to build confidence and with no foundation for it to rest upon, it only takes a brief, lonely moment of clarity as we grow-up for it to crumble. Faced with reality, we’re forced to unlearn what’s not true and feel like an impostor, mortified at the idea of being found out. What compounds this suffering of low self-esteem is that we suffer it in silence. Not only did we not learn confidence, we also chose the wrong coping mechanism to deal with the fact that we have none.
